The Netflix horror movie Bird Box, which spawned the inane Bird Box blindfolded challenge, was a huge hit with audiences. Many viewers are hoping that the post-apocalyptic drama will be continued.
Bird Box 2 will be released, says author Josh Malerman. Even though he was limited in what he could say, he did reveal that Netflix is already at work on a Bird Box sequel. During an interview with Inverse, he was questioned about the next instalment in the scary series.
Considering that the first film was one of Netflix’s most-viewed movies of all time, with roughly 26 million viewers in the first week according to Nielsen, it’s not surprising that a sequel would be in the works.
Now that we know Bird Box 2 is definitely happening, one of the biggest open concerns is when Netflix will release the highly anticipated sequel.

Time of the Second Instalment of Bird Box
The question on everyone’s mind now that we know Bird Box 2 will arrive in the future is when Netflix will announce a release date to eager audiences. This announcement may not come for some time, as it appears that the entire project is still in its infancy.
A Netflix film’s sequel usually comes out a year or two after the first one. Given the magnitude of this incident for the streaming behemoth, it’s reasonable to expect that they will take their time developing the next instalment.
Netflix will move gingerly on any new projects until the pandemic slows down the production sector as a whole.
While we may have to wait a while for Netflix to release Bird Box 2, it’s encouraging to know that they have plans to continue the story.
Participating Actors in Bird Box 2
You can always count on seeing at least a few of the main players from the previous picture back for the sequel, with one notable exception: horror. Despite the fact that some horror films do manage to keep their original cast members on board for sequels, Bird Box 2 may very well have an entirely new group of actors.
The original film’s lead, Sandra Bullock, is notoriously reluctant in making follow-ups to her films. It’s reasonable that the Academy Award–winning actress would be wary of making sequels after the failures of Speed 2: Cruise Control and Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabolous.
All of the other actors tragically died after being exposed to the terrible energy that drives people to commit suicide after seeing the unseen being. Tom and Olympia might come back, but they might also recast the roles.
This is all conjecture at this point, but it will be exciting to see who joins the cast of the upcoming Bird Box 2 on Netflix.
