Lyft and Uber have announced publicly and said on Friday that they would be covering all of the legal fees for drivers on their respective platforms. They are the drivers who have been sued under Texas’ restrictive abortion law. This law of went into effect just this week. And under this, many of the drivers have been sued. Well, you haven’t heard of the law? Well, no worries because we are going to brief and tell you anyway.

The law was passed just this week, and it was put immediately under effect before anyone can react. The law is passing on judgment saying that they are banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. This is crazy because most women do not even know they are pregnant before that period of time.

Lyft, Uber Will Cover Legal Fees for Drivers Sued Under Texas Abortion Law

Patients won’t be sued, but the doctors, nurses, and the people working in the procedure might be at the risk of being sued. This is also applicable to the drivers of Uber rides or Lyft that help in transportation of the women. The fine could be as high as 10,000 dollars. The fact that this much huge amount is levied on the charge, it is scaring the people and Uber and Lyft are already facing the problem of shortage of drivers.

But this law is totally inhumane and does not have any rhyme or reason to it. How is the driver supposed to know if the woman he is driving is pregnant or not, let aside the fact that where she is going and what she is going to do? It is not only a breach of privacy. It is totally impossible to do. The law is facing a lot of criticism from all sides since most people find it very impossible and infuriating to follow.

“Drivers are not responsible for monitoring where their riders go or why. Imagine being a driver and not knowing if you are breaking the law by giving someone a ride,” Lyft said in a day.

Lyft and Uber had made sure that they are going to cover the legal fee of any ride who are sued under this law.
