Based on the novel of the same name by Italian writer Roberto Saviano, this time-jumping Amazon crime thriller follows a group of criminals as they move through different eras to take down an international cocaine operation
(Zero Zero Zero is slang for the purest quality cocaine). The first season of Zero Zero Zero premiered on Amazon Prime in March of 2020. In the first season of Zero Zero Zero, we see how the Mexican and Italian drug cartels function as rival power structures.
After the early season death of their father, Edward Lynwood, the New Orleans-based Lynwood family, led by Emma (Andrea Riseborough) and Chris (Dane DeHaan), became the connecting link in the cocaine trafficking chain (Gabriel Byrne).
The first season of ZeroZeroZero follows Manuel Contreras (Harold Torres), a corrupt army commander in the Mexican army, as he takes control of operations in Monterrey.
Giuseppe De Domenico’s Stefano La Piana, an Italian gangster, is secretly plotting against his grandfather, Don Minu, a revered boss in the ‘Ndrangheta criminal organisation. Stefano Sollima, Janus Metz, and Pablo Trapero helmed the first season of ZeroZeroZero on Amazon Prime.
Stefano is captured and threatened by the Bellantone family in the penultimate episode of season 1 of Zero Zero Zero, forcing him to take swift action. Chris failed to provide him with information that might have prevented financial troubles for Don Minu, so he went to great lengths to find him down in Morocco and brutally kill him.

The Second Season of Zero Zero Zero Has Been Renewed
Season 2 of ZeroZeroZero has not been formally ordered, and it may never be as the show was first advertised as a miniseries. The series debuted in Italy in February 2020 and has since been distributed to many other countries by HBO Europe.
The positive reception the first season received suggests there is interest in seeing more of the story developed in season 2, should that be the decision made by the creators of ZeroZeroZero.
Zero Zero Zero Season 2: Release Date and Additional Details
Once the second season of ZeroZeroZero is officially approved, production could start in late 2020 or early 2021. Amazon is unlikely to adhere to the standard one-season-per-year paradigm for hour-long drama series given the scale of production and the talent involved.
If all goes well, we might see season 2 of ZeroZeroZero in 2020 or 2021. But it looks like we won’t be able to watch ZeroZeroZero season 2 on Amazon Prime until 2022.
Plot Summary for Zero Zero Zero Season 2
There is resolution to the conflict at the end of the first season of Zero Zero Zero, making it similar to a Greek tragedy. Briefly said, Emma does honourably by approaching Don Minu with an offer he can’t refuse.
In the aftermath of Stefano’s death, Don Minu resumes business as usual with the Lynwood family, with only Emma at the helm. After Jacinto Leyra is no longer an option, Emma discovers in Mexico that Manuel is her new point of contact.
Emma exits a Monterrey facility with an anxious grin on her face after concluding a new distribution contract at the end of Season 1 of Zero Zero Zero.
Given the nature of Emma’s agreement with Manuel, a Russian subplot could be introduced in season 2 of Zero Zero Zero. Because she needs 2,000 kilogrammes of cocaine in just three weeks, she must get back to business immediately and investigate her contacts in Monterrey.
Last Words
Zero Zero Zero Season 2 will almost certainly feature the introduction of a new friend and/or colleague of Emma’s (perhaps both). Also, Russia will likely play a key role in the sequel, if for no other reason than to differentiate itself from Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico.
To paraphrase Michael Corleone, Emma will go through a transformation in season 2 of ZeroZeroZero as she becomes more powerful and learns to identify the greatest threats.
