Darwish defeated S. Hussain Shah, a judoka from Pakistan, with an ippon after 3 minutes and 9 seconds.
If you toss your opponent “on his back with momentum and control” in judo, you’ve scored an ippon. If you score an ippon, the match is over. Waza-ari refers to an unforced technique, and in judo, all it takes to win a match is two of these.
At the time of the Olympics in Tokyo, S. Hussain Shah was one of Pakistan’s best medal hopes. Pakistan is in a precarious position after his early exit. Prior to his trip to Japan, S. Hussain Shah voiced his displeasure to The Express Tribune about how difficult the epidemic made his preparations for Tokyo.
The Olympics are taking place during a “particularly tough period,” S. Hussain Shah told. “Japan has been here before, during World War 2,” he said. The pandemic, however, has forced everyone to alter their habits and way of life.

Gulfan Joseph of Pakistan was unable to advance in the air pistol competition. Talha Talib, a weightlifter, came in two kg short of winning bronze. And Haseeb Tariq, the swimmer, didn’t even make it out of the preliminary rounds.
