Next month comes the Golden Disc Awards ceremony. The 36th annual Golden Disc Awards ceremony will take place at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome on January 8, 2022. The announcement was made on December 16.

Because of the need to hold the awards ceremony in a clean concert hall that adheres to requirements for social distance and quarantine, the ceremony will only be held for one day, rather than the normal two.

Awards will be given out for the best songs and albums that were released between November 2020 and mid-November 2021. Since several albums and singles had sales counting periods that overlapped with the ceremony’s closing times in 2016, they were ineligible for nominations, but will be considered for awards this year.

Major category nominees will be selected using objective metrics like total number of streams and number of albums sold.

Winners are determined 60% by cumulative sales data through mid-December 2021, and 40% by votes cast by a panel of 50 music industry experts, including music journalists, music programme producers, music reviewers, music distributors, and members of the ceremony’s executive committee.

To prevent major awards like the Grand Prize (Disc Daesang), Bonsang, Best Rookie Artist awards, and more from becoming popularity awards, online voting is not included in the judging criteria; nevertheless, the actual Popularity Award will continue to be based on votes, at 100%.

The major nominees for the Golden Disc Awards will be announced on the website on December 8.
