The latest smash hit series on Netflix, Maid, is based on the actual tale of a single mother who leaves her abusive husband in search of a better life for herself and her little daughter.
Based on the memoir of the same name by Stephanie Land (opens in new tab), the drama follows Alex (Margaret Qualley), a single mother who struggles for custody of her two-year-old daughter Maddy while working as a maid to make ends meet.
The heartbreaking show is a sombre, realistic look at overcoming the effects of emotional abuse in a relationship and making ends meet inside the dysfunctional welfare system in the United States.
Many viewers have already seen all ten episodes of the compelling drama, which is presently ranked third on Netflix’s Top 10. Here’s the latest on whether or not there will be a second season of Maid for fans of Alex’s narrative.

Will there be a Season 2 of Maid?
Though it has been advertised as a limited series, Netflix has offered no indication that Maid will be returning for a second season.
However, other limited series (like HBO’s Big Little Lies and The White Lotus), which premiered to huge popularity and multiple award nominations, were renewed. The streaming company may decide to keep the drama going if Maid continues to do well in the Top 10 since its release last Friday.
In spite of this, after the show’s premiere, Netflix nominated Maid for a Limited Series Emmy, indicating that it considers the season to be complete. Contrarily, Netflix hopes that the K-drama blockbuster Squid Game will return for a second season by entering it in the Emmys as a Drama Series.
The Second Season of Maid could Focus on What?
As the first season comes to a close, Alex’s story is effectively wrapped up. Alex runs away from Sean (Nick Robinson), her abusive boyfriend, for the second time and settles in Missoula, Montana, where she plans to enrol in her ideal college and major in creative writing.
Alex is able to take Maddy with her thanks to the assistance of a powerful attorney recommended to her by her house-cleaning customer Regina (Anika Noni Rose). The last episode features Mom and Alex’s new campus neighbour, M Mountain, as they hike together.
The events in Land’s book and her actual life converge at the time she and her daughter made the journey across the country and she enrolled in college at the University of Montana.
Though the novel ends there, a second season might follow Alex as she moves her new house cleaning business to Montana and continues to work and go to school. In that case, we might see Sean and Alex’s parents, Paula (Andie McDowell) and Hank, make appearances, and Alex and Maddy interact with a mostly new cast of characters.
I was Wondering What the Actors and Crew of Maid Season Two had to Say About the Upcoming Season.
According to Decider(opens in new tab), creator and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler is interested in returning for a second season since she enjoys writing the characters, especially Alex.
“This show, I must say, is clearly the result of a lot of hard work. And I could spend the rest of my life writing about Alex—I love him and all the other characters so much. You see, I just feel this way about her. But I think we’ve told her tale once, so I’m not sure how it would work.”
Metzler added that she would be fine with the show being an anthology series in which another domestic worker would play the major role.
“I do think there are a lot of maids out there, there are a lot of domestic workers that are facing experiences that are as horrible, if not worse than, Stephanie Land’s,” she said. “A different maid’s story each season would be a dream come true, in my opinion.
Someone from a completely other part of the world, who has had a very distinct set of experiences, and who is most likely a mother.”
