Reality dating shows are about to be turned on their heads by HBO’s “My Mom, Your Dad.” There are eight episodes, and they’re kind of like a cross between “Love Island” and “The Circle,” with the key difference being that the participants all have extensive dating experience.

These aren’t your typical 23-year-olds on “The Bachelor” who are hoping to find a wealthy fiance by the show’s final episode. These are single parents over 40 who were nominated by their college-aged children and are looking for a second (or third!) chance at love.

What Happened To Karen on Second Chance Retreat

Already familiar with the online dating scene, Karen Larrea was surprised to learn that her daughter Breana Symone had signed her up for the show. She had doubts that the casting call was real, much less that a relationship formed on a reality show had any chance of lasting (see: every Bachelor Nation engagement that imploded at warp speed).

Nonetheless, she gave it a shot, and she and her co-star, Troy Petrick, hit it off immediately. Karen’s unanticipated departure from production in the middle of the sixth episode nearly derailed their budding romance before it even got off the ground.

When Karen Larrea Contracted the Coronavirus, she had to Leave the Production.

A producer called Karen into his office in the sixth episode, “My Rock Says Caution,” to have a chat with a character named Karl. When he broke the “crappy” news to Karen, she immediately began packing.

She had written a note for Troy before she abruptly left, citing unspecified “personal concerns” as the reason for her departure. Then Breana left, and soon after that, Troy and Noah Petrick followed suit.

As they combed through the closing credits, fans finally learned that Karl Risinger played the role of Health and Safety Supervisor on the show.

A clue? Definitely. In the meantime, rumors of a strange “family emergency” spread across blogs. Until now, Karen has been vague about the nature of her problems.

Last Words

Thankfully, Karen and Troy were able to pick up where they left off romantically after the show finished. She says, “During the time that we are away, we chat daily via FaceTime, text, and phone calls.” I’ve been smiling widely for the past six months.
