American former record executive and convicted felon Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight Jr. (//; born April 19, 1965) is also the co-founder and former CEO of Death Row Records. Knight played a significant role in the commercial success of gangsta rap in the ’90s.
The albums The Chronic (1992) by Dr. Dre and Doggystyle (1993) by Snoop Dogg are credited with launching the label’s success. Tupac Shakur’s prison term, which could have been as long as four and a half years, began in 1995.
